I was deeply inspired by our Matron Ancestral Saint Harriet 'Araminta' Tubman to create the Underground Railroad Church. About 8 years ago while at work, there was a copy of the Ebony Magazine on a desk, I picked it up and started to thumb through it and ran across a featured article on Harriet Tubman our ‘Black Moses’.
I read the article on Ancestor Harriet, what struck me the most reading about her was the article stated Sista Harriet suffered from narcolepsy after being hit in the head when she was young by an overseer. What was so profound, is that, narcolepsy causes ‘sleep-walking’ and Sitsa Harriet led our Ancestors on the underground railroad to freedom in the North leading while being momentarily sleep at times.
Though I knew about Sista Harriet since I was child particularly her heroic Underground Railroad leadership, I had had not read about her life in detail. After reading this article on her in the Ebony Magazine, her spirit left a very deep impression on me; I began to feel her spirit all the time; her spirit began to bring Ancestral revelations to me. I discovered that Sista Harriet was a ‘Healer’ – a ‘Root Doctor’.
Ancestor Harriet has become my Guardian Angel - a constant inspiration and revelation in my life influencing me to ‘Ancestor Veneration’. Her spirit revealed to me to reflect deeply on the word ‘Underground’ which has had a double-meaning for me; externally meaning the ongoing struggle path grounded in self-determination against racial oppression and economic exploitation; and internally undergoing deep processing within my personality to remove the underlying psychological and spiritual wounds of what Brother Malcolm X coined as ‘white-disease’ – the psychopathologies of internalized oppression culture; healing myself by grounding myself in New Afrikan culture and its therapeutic tradition.
